OTA Job Shadowing Requirements

Shadowing Experience

Job shadowing experiences are not required at this time due to COVID. However, if an applicant were able to shadow, we recommend at least 20 hours. To get a better understanding of our practice areas, it is highly recommended that applicants shadow and Occupational Therapy practitioner in at least two different settings. Occupational Therapy practitioners can be found in school setting, outpatient clinics (adult, pediatrics, hands and return to work), hospital, skilled nursing centers, adult day health and psychiatric settings, academia to mention a few. You can also access the Washington Occupational Therapy Association website for resources.

If you are employed in a setting that allows you to work side by side with an Occupational Therapy practitioner, such as a Rehabilitation Therapy Aide, 10 hours can be counted towards your 20 hours.

Please see the Job Shadowing Form that must be completed by your Occupational Therapy Practitioner that you shadow.
